US Congressman. Born in Harmony Hill, Texas, he graduated from the Comanche High School in 1894 and taught school there (1894-97). He attended the University of Texas, graduated from the law department of that university in 1900, was admitted to the bar the same year and commenced to practice law in Comanche, Texas. He was prosecuting attorney of Comanche County, (1900-02) and delegate to Democratic Texas State conventions, (1900-16, 1920-26). In 1911, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-second, Sixty-third and Sixty-fourth Congresses, serving until 1917. An unsuccessful candidate for renomination, he resumed the practice of law and engaged in agricultural pursuits in Comanche, Texas, until his death at age 74.
