Noveta Marie Helmkamp, age 87, of Monett, MO, passed from this life on Sunday morning, April 3, 2011, at her home following a short illness.

Noveta was born on July 27, 1923, in Monett, MO the daughter of the late Henry and Elva (Malan) Avondet.

Noveta taught school in rural Barry County for several years as well as being a homemaker and was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Monett, Loaves and Fishes, Gideon's International and PEO. She also enjoyed golfing and playing Bridge.

On December 24, 1943 in Monett, Noveta M. Avondet married Ivan E. Helmkamp. He preceded her in death on October 8, 1991. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Albert Avondet and Edward Avondet; three sisters, Wilma Easson, Helen Wormington and Henrietta Bowen.

Noveta is survived by one daughter, Patricia Ann Marbut and her husband Jerry E., of Brownsville, TX; two brothers, Louis Avondet and wife Avonell, of Monett and Henry Avondet, Jr. of Monett; two sisters, Irene Henson, of Pierce City, MO and Willadean Chapman, of Monett; five sisters-in-law, Helen Avondet of Kansas City, MO, Lucille Avondet, of Monett, Carol Avondet of Monett, Alice Helmkamp, of Freistatt, MO and Ethel Helmkamp, of Freistatt; as well as numerous nephews, nieces and a host of close friends.

Graveside services for Noveta will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Oakdale Cemetery in Monett. Reverend Clif Crockett will officiate. Memorial services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Monett. The family will receive friends at the Buchanan Funeral Home Chapel from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Memorial contributions have been requested in lieu of flowers to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, Gideon's International, or to Hospice Compassus in care of the funeral home.
