Milton "Joe" Arden, Jr.

Milton "Joe" Arden, Jr. Springfield - Milton "Joe" Arden, Jr., 94, died Sunday, November 23, 2014 at the Effingham County Care Center after a long illness, with his family at his side. He was a native of Effingham County, born on March 28, 1920 in Guyton, Georgia to Milton Arden, Sr. and Carlyn Bazemore Arden. He was a member of the Springfield United Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Board. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia. He was also a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army and a charter member of the American Legion Post #209. He was a past president of the Springfield Lions Club, a member of the Springfield City Council, and a Hall of Fame Member of the Effingham County Recreation Department. He was a retired Chevrolet Dealer, and was an avid aviation enthusiast. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Nina Lou Varnell Arden; two sisters, Lynn Arden Bailey and Arleta Arden Reiser. He is survived by a daughter, Melinda Arden Neidlinger (Max); three sons, Thomas Milton Arden (Melissa), George Alan Arden (Terrie), and John Varnell Arden (Jackie); twelve grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a sister, Maudeane Clifton; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Springfield United Methodist Church sanctuary followed by the funeral service at 3:00 p.m. Burial service will be held at the Springfield Cemetery. Remembrances may be given to Springfield United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 237, Springfield, GA 31329.
