Lifetime Verdi resident Angelo Matteucci passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2011. He was born on April 25, 1931 to Italian immigrant parents who instilled in him a work ethic that few men can match. As a young man, he spent summers working on the Pagni and Quilici ranches learning the horticultural skills that made him a master gardener. He was a graduate of Reno High and served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1952 - 1960, and fought in the Korean War. Angelo worked for Sierra Pacific Power Company as a hydro-power plant supervisor until his retirement in 1993. However, he also worked numerous additional jobs helping many Verdi residents build their homes, cut their wood and till their gardens. In 1955, he married Lawanda Martin and in addition to his daughter, she had three three. They quickly added two more girls to the family. This forever made Angelo the ultimate father. He and mother were always available to guide the children and grandchildren through every life experience. His practical and straight forward advice will forever be missed.

Angelo was an avid hunter and fisherman and was pleased to catch the ONLY fish on his last fishing expedition on the Sacramento River just a few weeks ago. He loved Nevada and explored every area either hunting, fishing, gathering bottles, or simply hiking. He also loved playing baseball, playing on the Verdi team and coaching little league. His friends extend across the state and we have all lost a walking Nevada history encyclopedia. He was a friend to everyone and enjoyed sharing his knowledge.

Angelo was predeceased by his parents Adam "Louis" and Leontina Matteucci, his sisters Eva McAlpin, and Mary Pagni, brother Fred Colombini, great nephews Michael and Mark Harker, and grandson Jason Schneider. He is survived by his daughters: Linda Scribner (Peter), Bonnie Ludwick, Gail Terry, Lori Schneider, Lorretta Matteucci (David), and Tina Matteucci (Terry), grandchildren: David Geddes (Shelly), Jason Church, Jamen Neef (Richard), Christian Scribner (Christine), Shannon and Shane Tackett and Ashley McKinney, great-grandchildren: Erick, Rynn and Kyle Geddes, Jacob and Joshua Neef, and Kayla and Kaiden McKinney, nieces and nephews: Al Harker (Sue), Jimmy Colombini (Karen), Linda Marty (Mike), Laura Berrien (Andy), Diane Bugica (Gary), Darlene Galleron (Dave), Donna Becker (Gary), and cousins Julio and George Cecchetti. Special family members also include Bob and Dana White and Michael and Calvin Perry.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 23rd, 2011 at Walton Funeral Home, 875 West Second Street, Reno. Entombment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery, with a reception to follow at the V.F.W. Hall in Verdi.
