Cleveland Mayor. A New York native, he moved to Cleveland in 1826 when it was still a village and quickly became the leading fur trader in the region. In 1834 he was appointed treasurer of the Cleveland & Newburgh Railway and he served as village treasurer in 1835. After Cleveland's incorporation as a city in 1836 he was elected to two terms as an alderman. Dockstader's popularity won him election as Cleveland's 3rd Mayor in 1840, but he served only one year before returning to his business interests. In later years he was active in banking. Originally buried at Cleveland's Woodland Cemetery, he was reinterred at Lake View Cemetery in 1886.
