Coach Curtis Cook of the Oakdale high school, was called Monday morning to Grand Cane on account of the critical illness, and resultant death of his mother, Mrs. Allie Mae Cook, aged 78 years, wife of L. M. Cook. Mrs. Cook died at about 12:00 o'clock, noon, September 12th, 1938.
Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist church there, interment following in Grand Cane cemetery.
Mrs. Cook is survived by her husband and eight [should be seven as enumerated] children. The children are: Mrs. Clarence Morey, Long Beach Calif.; Mrs. Joe Sharpe, Mooringsport, La.; Mrs. Clarence Storey, Grand Cane; Mrs. C.E. Ricks, Grand Cane; W.C. Cook and L.H. Cook, both of Grand Cane, and Curtis Cook of Oakdale. Twelve grand-children also survive, and these, with sons-in-law served as pall bearers.
All children, with the exception of Mrs. Morey, were present at the funeral, and she was enroute to her California home after having visited her mother, who had been in ill health since early in July.
The Journal extends deepest sympathy to this large family of bereaved relatives.
