She was born Markarid (Margaret) Sookiasian was the daughter of Toros and Mariam Sookiasian. She married Kevork George Azadigian in Malatya, Turkey, and had two children, Manuel and Manoushag (Viola). George emigrated to Philadelphia to establish a better life there, and a few years later in September 1912 Margaret and the children were able to join him there. Another son, Vasken (Frank) Azadigian, was born to the couple after reuniting in Philadelphia. Margaret's husband died in 1923 and her son Manuel, an accomplished artist, died of cancer the next year. Margaret struggled to support herself and the two remaining children by sewing lampshade pullers. Her daughter married in 1926 and split time between Philadelphia and Olean, New York where her husband's relatives had settled. Margaret was visiting her daughter in Olean when she died and was buried there. Her funeral was held on July 16 at St. Joseph Church, and coincidentally it was later learned that her brother Avedis (Charles) had died in New York City just the day prior.
