Anna was born at 09 Jul 1870 near Beecher, Will County, Illinois; the oldest child of Friedrich "Fred" Bauck Sr. and Dorothea Elisabeth Buhr.

When she was 3 years old, the family moved to Nebraska where they lived a year before moving to Minnesota in 1875. Since the next four children in the family were boys, Anna was the one to help her mother with the housework. When her mother died in 1895, Anna was 24 years old and had 8 younger brothers and sisters, so she had to be mother to the younger children.

In 1898 her father married Minna (Lemberg) Harbicht, a widow with 9 children. While the oldest Harbicht children had already left home, there were still a lot left, so Minna had her hands full with her own children. The Bauck children still went to Anna when they needed something.

As the years went by, the rest of the children grew up, were married, and left home. Finally, Anna was alone on with farm with her father and stepmother.

After her father died in 1933, Anna spent the next year visiting with her brothers and sisters. Then she rented a house in Perham where she lived until Sept 1, 1937, when she moved to a small house she had built near the home of her sister, Frieda (Bauck) Krauss.

On Tuesday, January 11, 1939, Anna was over visiting with Frieda. When she left, she said she would come again the next day if it wasn't storming. The weather was fine the next day, but she didn't come, so in the afternoon Frieda went over to see how she was doing and found her in bed. Apparently she had died in her sleep toward morning since the neighbors had seen a light on late the evening before.

Henrietta (Krauss) Mueller was Anna's godchild and spent many days in the summer time visiting and helping Anna with tending the cows and chickens and looking for eggs in the barn, granary, and yard. They had a bell on a post in the yard for calling the men in from the field, and Henrietta remembers getting to ring it when dinner was ready. She also remembers that Anna always had slippery elm in her room and would give her some to chew. Other memories include 3 hammocks tied to trees in the grove next to the house and rides to town in the one-horse buggy or the surrey.
