"John Chester Banks, retired graphic artist and longtime resident of Wheatland and Kansas City, MO, passed away June 8, 2000, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St Louis, MO. He was born in Quincy, IL, on July 17, 1928. For most of his life, he was a resident of Missouri. He served in World War II in the Army Air Corps and in Korea in the Air Force.

He graduated from Northeast High School, Kansas City, in 1946. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1954, and worked for Ville Goller Fine Arts as a graphic artist. Widely known for his artistic and humorous abilities, after retiring from Ville Goller Fine Arts, he worked independently as an artist.

He was a member of the Jaycees and received several awards from them. He was also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Boy Scouts. In the Boy Scouts, he achieved the highest rank possible as an Eagle Scout in 1945. He was also awarded membership in the secret Boy Scout tribe, Manowok. He was also a member of the Mensa high IQ society.

Survivors include two nephews, J. Patrick Banks of California and Ron Banks of Geneva, Switzerland; a niece, Barbara White of Oklahoma; two great-nephews and four great-nieces.
