Daniel Charles was born 27 Jan 1882 in Hopkins, Nodaway County, Missouri to John S. and Amanda Gohn Charles. He also resided at one time in Lewistown, Pennsylvania.
He and several of his brothers were employed by Pennsylvania Engineering Works in New Castle, Pennsylvania. They built and dismantled mills all over the United States. While staying in Illinois, he met and courted his future wife Etha Worley by sending her numerous postcards.
'Pop' had a glass eye; the mishap came as a result of child play when young.
While being out of state more than home, Dan and Etha managed to have six children. Some of these children were born while Etha continued to live in Illinois and the remainder were born after they moved to Pennsylvania. Robert, Howard, Irene, Nina, Cecelia and an infant son who didn't make it to his first month John Aaron Charles.
Brothers - Samuel, Harry, John, Walter, Reed, Elmer and Benjamin Charles.
Sisters - Mary Barnham and Mrs. Frannie Burke.
