U.S. Congressman. He attended the University of Minnesota, graduated from the law department of the University of Wisconsin, in 1906, was admitted to the bar and practiced law in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, (1908-10). Moving to Washington, in 1911, he taught in public high school in Benton County, (1911-22), was a lecturer at State Grange, (1922-32) and a member of the Washington State House of Representatives, (1927-33). In 1933, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-third Congress and to the next four succeeding Congresses, serving until 1943. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was superintendent of the Uintah-Ouray Indian agency at Fort Duchesne, Utah, (1943-44), a radio commentator in Spokane, Washington, (1944-46) and consulting appraiser in the Bureau of Reclamation, Columbia Basin Project, Ephrata, Washington, (1949-51).
