US Congressman. A graduate of Oskaloosa College, he taught school in Iowa before moving to Kansas in 1874 to settle a homestead in Turkey Creek Township. In addition to farming, he was the superintendent of public schools for Mitchell County from 1876 to 1880 and a member of the state Senate from 1884 to 1888. Admitted to the bar in 1889, he opened a practice in Beloit, Kansas. Reelected to the state Senate, he served an additional term from 1904 to 1908. He served in the US House of Representatives from March 4, 1911 through March 3, 1913, then resumed his law practice in Beloit.
