Anthony was the third of six children born to Anthony Heicken and Mary Ann Buchheit. Prior to 1940 he married Mary Lillian Patterson; they had no children. Anthony worked in the newspaper industry for many years and he was a photoengraver for the Courier-Journal at the time of his death. He died of hypostatic pneumonia due to a meningioma in the left frontal lobe of the brain.
