Had a full ride scholarship for 4 years to Ohio State University to major in Science but gave it up to be a Marine. Was MIA in September 1943 & declared dead September 16, 1944. When his body was returned, his Mother was told not to open the casket so she never knew if his body was in there or just some rocks. He was one of the last 5 Marines brought back. A Chaplin wrote his Mother saying he saw 4 men go into a foxhole & only 3 came out. In 2019, the Division Of the Military Stationed at Wright Pat that are responsible for finding all the remains of missing military confirmed in 2019 that John was actually identified through his dental records.
