Her husband, Private Joseph Stahl, Co D, 21st IA Inf. died 9 Aug 1863 of typhoid while serving the Union in the Civil War. He is buried in Jefferson Barracks military cemetery in St Louis Co, MO, findagrave memorial # 55009863. Joseph and Mary had several children on their farm in Clayton Co IA before his death. Mary moved to Elgin IA after the farm was sold by the estate and never remarried.
