U.S. Congressman. Immigrating to the United States with his parents in 1886, he lived on a farm near Clear Lake, Minnesota. He apprenticed as a printer, later being publisher of the Royalton Banner, the Foley Independent and the Wadena Pioneer Journal at Wadena, Minnesota. He was a delegate to the Republican State conventions (1902, 04, 10) and president of the Northern Minnesota Editorial Association (1910-11). In 1917, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-fifth Congress and to the next fifteen succeeding Congresses, serving until 1949. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was publisher of the Wadena Pioneer Journal until his death.
