Biography
Mary "Mollie" Abdnour, 98, of Streator died at 3:05 am Thursday October 15, 2009, at St. Mary's Hospital in Streator.
Funeral services for Mollie Abdnour will be at 11 am Monday at Christ Episcopal Church in Streator. Fr. John Crist will officiate and conduct graveside services at St. Mary's Cemetery in Streator. Serving as pallbearers will be Lou Abdnour, Joe Abdnour, Jim Nair, Scott Nair, Mike Gibbons, Jim Rashid, David Rashid and Juan Hernandez. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Abdnour and David Morse. Visitation for Mollie will be from 4 -7 pm Sunday at the Elias Funeral Home.
She was born September 27, 1911, in Ibel, Lebanon. Her father died at a young age in Lebanon. Her mother, Sadie Hazar, brought Mollie, her brothers Kaleem Hazar and Khalil Hazar, and sister, Naigla "Hazar" Dunn to the United States in 1917. They preceded her in death. She married Roy E. Abdnour June 25, 1939. He died July 14, 2006.
She is survived by two sons Kamell Abdnour of Streator, Robert Abdnour of Streator, and one daughter Karen (John) Nair of Park Forest, IL. Also surviving are grandchildren Kim (Mike) Gibbons, Scott (Moira) Nair, James (Erin) Nair, 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a sister-in-law Inga Hazar of Pompton Plains, NJ.
She owned and operated Jack & Jill Children's Shop in Streator for 33 years, until her retirement in 1973. She was a former member of the Bridge Club at the Streator Country Club. She volunteered her time at St. Mary's Hospital and Christ Episcopal Church, and contributed to the Statue of Liberty restoration fund. She was also a generous contributor to the Ellis Island Restoration Fund and is recognized on the Wall of Fame at Ellis Island for her support.
