AGED PHYSICIAN IS VICTIM OF DISEASE

JOHN BRADY, DOCTOR OF THE OLD SCHOOL, HAD FINE WAR RECORD.

LIVED HERE MANY YEARS

One of the last of the old school of doctors in Grand Rapids has passed away. DR. JOHN BRADY, for years one of the leading physicians of the city, died Monday at his home, 233 Sheldon avenue, S.E. He was seventy-seven years old.

Dr. Brady was born Aug. 18, 1837, in Ireland. He came to this country in 1885 and settled at Seneca Falls, N.Y. He studies [studied] medicine at the Buffalo university, graduating Feb. 19, 1860. Shortly after leaving the university he came to Grand Rapids and practiced until 1862 when he entered the Union army as assistant surgeon, serving in Jackson, Mich., and Memphis, Tenn. In 1863 he was ordered to the Forty-fifth regiment Illinois infantry and later was with the regiment in the battles of Raymond, Jackson and Champion Hills and the assault upon Vicksburg.

SPENT YEAR ABROAD.

In 1866 Dr. Brady resigned from the service and returned to his practice in this city. He also became a charter member of the Michigan State Medical society in this same year. He was a member of the American Medical association and was twice president of the Grand Rapids Medical and Surgical society. Other organizations of which he was a member are the Grand Rapids Academy of Medicine and Western Michigan Medical society.

Dr. Brady spent the year in 1883-84 abroad as the attending physician to JOHN CLANCY and during that time studied in Paris. He was elected coronor in 1870 and was twice re-elected. Since the year 1887 he had been a member of the International Medical congress.

Last winter Dr. Brady suffered an attack of pneumonia. A month ago after a partial recovery he suffered a relapse and failed steadily since.

The deceased is survived by his widow.
