Alanson Bacon, farmer born in Hamiltion, New York Sept. 6 1812, his father Maskiel Bacon died when 65 years of age, having had a family of nine childern..

Frederick Bacon 76 years of age died in Ripon, Wis., Hudson Bacon aged 72 in Green Bay Wis., Peter Bacon aged 75 in Indiana, Eunice Burroughs died in Green Lake Wis., Caroline Stebbins Scott, aged 72 living in Union Grove Wis., Sally Thurston died in Michigan, Polly Corwin died in New York, Alanson Bacon of this sketch, lives on a farm here, aged 68, James Bacon died at Palmyra New York, Lucius Bacon died age 23.

Alanson lived at home until 1829, engaging in farming, he then walked to Cattaraugas county and bought a farm of eighty acres; about this time in September 1831 he married Miss Dorcas L. Stebbins of New York, they had three children -- Philo S., Lucinda and Mary. His wife died in Kenosha in 1840, he had contracted rheumatism and was obligated to sell his farm, and for eight years he could not walk and has not entirely recovered.

After selling he went home to Hannibal and stayed there, an invalid, getting better, he took a claim of 160 acres but was not able to work, so not 60 acres, and finally sold it; came here March 1846 and settled on sec 13 and owns now 104 acres valued at $50.00 per acre, worked three years, his lameness letting letting him work, he went to making window sash, at this he made money, and when the railroad came thru he bossed the bands and made good wages in 1855, he went into the mercantile business buying out George Andrews of Elroy; first year made $1000 clear, after carrying on business nine years sold on account of bad health.

Mr. Bacon is a Democrat and served as a Justice of the Peace for fourteen years. Supervisor nine years in succession, and Assessor one year.

In 1841, he married Elizabeth Clark, they have two children Lansing in Dakota, and Frederick a traveling man

Alanson's brother Hudson Bacon was one of the founders of the Western Emigration Company a investment company organized in Hannibal New York that sold shares so they could build a settlement in the West known as Kenosha..a lot of Bacon relatives settled in Wisconsin..

Alanson Bacons parents were Maskiel Bacon and Sarah Hudson. The Bacon's were originally from Hartford County in Connecticut and moved to Onondaga county New York in the early 1800's.
