AN OLD RESIDENT GONE.
Mrs. Elizabeth Beck, wife of Dr. Jacob Beck, died suddenly at her home, No. 626 Laramie street, about 5:30 o’clock yesterday afternoon. She had just finished supper, and upon entering the sitting room gasped a couple of times and said, “Oh my!” and died. Heart disease was probably the cause of the demise. The funeral will occur from the Union church at Lancaster at Lancaster Sunday morning.
Mrs. Beck was 69 years old She came to Kansas with her husband who survives her, and is now 76 years old, away back in the fifties, and the couple have resided in Atchison county ever since. Dr. Beck pre-empted a quarter section of land near Lancaster, on which he resided until a few years ago, when he moved to the city. He and his wife assisted in establishing the beautiful cemetery at Lancaster. They also helped build the Union church and the school house. Dr. Beck was a member of the school board of the Lancaster district for twenty years. While the couple never belonged to any church, they have always been recognized as leaders in benevolent work. Mrs. Beck’s funeral will be preached in the church which she helped build, and her body will be laid to rest in the cemetery she helped established.
The deceased was the mother of four children: Mrs. John Ostertag of Atchison, Mrs. John Kirkpatrick of Atchison county, and Jacob and George Beck of western Kansas. They will attend the funeral.
