"Mrs. Walter Myers

Gertrude Cane [sic], daughter of Henry and Edith Cane [sic], was born in Elkhart county, Indiana, Oct. 1, 1891, and died at her home in Wakarusa, Ind., Feb 27, 1927, aged 35 years, 4 months and 26 days.
She was married to Walter M. Myers, June, 16, 1917. To this union was born two children, Welcome Evenell and Mary Belle.
She was converted early in life, later, June 1925, she united with the M. B. C church of Wakarusa, where she remained a faithful Christian until death. She was devoted to her home and family, was loved by her neighbors and friends. She will be missed in the church and in the community
She leaves to mourn her loss, father, brother, husband, two children and many friends.
Mrs. Myers was a woman of exceptional worth and quality. Her devotion to home and keen interest in those she loved, was often commented upon. Her industry, courtesy and cherry disposition won hosts of friends. Failing health the past few years cut short her social and church activities, but whenever able she was willing to do her part. Her father, husband and two little daughters, have the heartfelt sympathy of a large circle of friends.
Funeral services were held at the M B. C church, Wednesday forenoon, Rev. W. H Moore officiating. Interment at Olive."

Note: Recorded in census records as Gertrude St. Clair. Gertrude's mother Edith died when Gertrude was just an infant. As a result she was raised by her great aunt Mary M. (nee Bennett) St. Clair. Mary was a widow having married Owen St. Clair some 20 years previous.
