She was born in Berlin, Germany, Sept. 22, 1860, daughter of Albert and Rose Mielke, and emigrated to America with her parents in 1874, and settled on what is known as the Mielke farm. She was married Feb. 4, 1880 to John Bitzan of Millerville. Nine children were born to this union, all of whom are living. They are Frank, San Diego, Calif.; John, Brandon; Mike, St. Cloud; (Tillie) Mrs. Frank Kuhn, Enderlen, N.D.; (Mary) Mrs. Joe Peffer, Enderlin, N.D.; (Anna) Mrs. George Kuhn, Alexandria; Barbara at home; August, St. Cloud; Anton, Millerville. Twenty-two grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Pauline Lorsung of Battle Ground, Wash., survive.
Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic church at Millerville, March 5, Rev. John Bussman officiating. Burial was made in the church cemetery. Cross bearer was Mrs. Anton Klien and six of her friends and neighbors served as honorary pallbearers: Mrs. Albert Bitzan, Mrs. Rosa Herzog, Mrs. Joe Roers, Mrs. Aug. Koeplin, Mrs. Mike Wacholtz and Mrs. Rosa Terfehr. Pallbearers were Richard Kuhn, Mark Kuhn, Walt Kuhn, Roland Peffer, Chas. Hughs and Donald Bitzan.
