Rest was the son of Jeramiah Lowe and Ludie Womack Lowe. He was educated in the Houston County School System. He joined the Sandbed Baptist Church in Kathleen, Georgia under the leadership of Rev G. G. Taylor and was ordained as a Deacon.
He married Fannie Washington Lowe in 1921. They remained together until his passing 68 years later.

Services held Thursday, November 2,1989 at 2pm in the Sanctuary of Sandbed Baptist Church with Rev David E. Savage officiating.
