From Paul Zerr:

"In Memory of Charlie Mattix

Beloved, once again in Life's journey we have come to the parting of the way.
Our plea, O Lord, is not for wealth, nor fame, but strength just for today.
Yet some day we hope to meet our loved and own if we but watch and wait.

In the quiet hush of the evening, neighbors and friends were painfully shocked to hear that Charlie Mattix, so well and favorably known, had suddenly passed away.

'Tis but a step from Time to Eternity. Life is so brief, our stay is so short, though we, like our fallen brother, live three score and almost ten. "Tis but a night's lodging at the inn. January 22, 1857, January 8th, 1927, was the span of life.

July 28, 1881, he was happily married to Alice Rhoads. This union was blessed with three sons, the eldest called in infancy, Walter and Russell survive to be a comfort to the grief-stricken mother.

He united with the Christian Church at Knightstown several years ago. He was also a member of the K. of P., Pythian Sisters. Odd Fellows and Rebekah lodges. Here in his jovial, good-hearted and cheery way made and will have many friends who will miss him in the temple and castle hall.

He was ever ready with his means and time to help anyone in need. A kind and indulgent husband, father and grandfather has gone from the family circle. It is here that he will be most sadly missed as the days go slowly by.

He was one of a family of nine children. This family, like many others, more on the other side than this. Father, mother, brothers Lon, Al, John and Aaron and sister Dill Coats and one grandchild have preceded him. Three sisters, Kate Dean, Eliza Craig, and Laura Chew, besides the wife, two sons and six grandchildren, all of whom he was especially fond, are left to finish life's journey without him.

Thus ends the earthly life of one who has gone in and out before us; his life an open book, known and read by all men. His own record he has written as our own records we are writing day by day. Now we leave it all to Him, believing He is able to keep that which we have committed unto Him against that day.

A thousand years in His sight - they are but as one day.
Life is scarely here begun until we come to the parting of the way.
Eternity, Eternity, we cannot, oh! we cannot comprehend.
A life that is here begun, that will never, never have an end.
For in almost every home there is an aching void, there is a vacant place.
Someone that you are longing for - a dear, familiar face.
It may be a mother or a father, dear; a husband so kind and true.
Or someone that you are longing for that has gone away from you.
For some days are bright and joyous and some are sad and lone -
But soon, Ah! soon it will matter not, for we too are hurrying home.

Card of Appreciation
By this means we wish to express our heartfelt thanks to all of our friends and neighbors for their expressions of sympathy and kindly assistance extended following the death and funeral rites of our beloved husband and father - Charles Mattix.
Mrs. Alice Mattix
Russell Mattix and family.
Walter Mattix and family."
