Mineral Point Tribune, an Aug. 1896 issue:
"Died at her home in this city, Tusday evening, August 11, Mrs. Mary Mitchell, aged79 years. Deceased was born in the parish of Penhall, Cornwall, England, in July 1817. In 1839 she was married to William Mitchell, whose death was recorded in these columns in September last. In 1842 the young couple emigrated to America and settled on a farm 2 miles north of this city, where they resided until a few years ago, when they came to finish their days in town."

"Six sons and 4 daughters were given to them. Two daughters died in early childhood. The sons, James, John, Thomas, Henry, Edward and Richard, and two daughters, Elizabeth [Mrs. Jerry Rule] and Miss Jane survive. Deceased was a woman of remarkable energy and force of character, contributing her full portion to accumulate the handsome property which is left to the family. Funeral will take place Friday at 2 pm, with services at the M. E. Church, with which the deceased has been affiliated for several years."
