While at Baylor he worked part-time for Sears. Following graduation he was transferred to the Dallas office of Sears in the accounting department where manual accounting procedures were in place. At retirement, "state of the art" computer systems available at that time were in place and under his supervision. He retired in 1989. Among his hobbies and interests were Barber Shop Singing, piloting small aircraft, and jigsaw puzzles. He was active in the Sears Retirement Organization.
He became a Master Mason in A.C. Garrett Lodge in 1992 and served as secretary from 1992-2003, Senior Warden 2003-2004 and Master 2004-1005. He held endowed memberships in The Scottish Rite and The Royal Order of Scotland. C. Garrett Lodge.
Sister, Nancy Sutton, stepson Louis Tobola, stepdaughter Carolyn Pearson, granddaughter, Adria Pearson, sister in law Ann P. Hill, as well as special friends Dorothy Fazio, Ray Sumrow and Jan Jones survive him. His wife of 42 years, Margaret Pursley Numbers, predeceased him in 1996. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 Monday, May 23, 2011 in the Church of the Incarnation, 3966 McKinney. Following the service, burial will be at Grove Hill Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Ralph Black, Boog Carter, Charles Dawson, Thomas King, John D. Ray and Thomas Rowdon.
