Using census and military records, we can assume John was born close to 1842. He married America St. John on September 1, 1860. They had known each other all their lives.
John served with his father and three brothers in the Civil War. John was hospitalized several times due to contracting mumps and measles. Although he survived the War and was discharged with his regiment, John soon died upon his return home as a consequence of continued medical issues from the diseases he contracted while in the service.
John was survived by America and their two daughters, Margaret and Martha. Margaret married James Lumpkins. Martha died at the age of 23 on November 22, 1887. Her burial location is unknown. (Bio by Janet)
