CHEROKEE, Iowa - Dr. Frankie J. Allender, 58, of Cherokee, passed away Monday, July 27, 2009, at his home.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 31, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Rev. Ray Kruger officiated. Graveside services will be held Monday, August 3, at 10:30 a.m. at the Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastor Mike Kelly will officiate. Visitation was Thursday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Frank was born March 5, 1951, in Clinton, Iowa to Frankie and Ardell (Gaarde). He grew up in the Bettendorf area and graduated from Bettendorf High School. He attended the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh and the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport. He was married to Carol M. Rocha on June 7, 1975, in Davenport. He had lived in Cherokee the past 24 years and operated the Allender Chiropractic Office. Dr. Allender was a great supporter of food for the needy with his annual drive for the Mid-Sioux Food Pantry. He was a member of the Diplomate of Chiropractic Philosophy, Iowa Chiropractic Society, Prescott Group "Big Kahuna" and was member of a pool league. He enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Carol Allender, in 2007.

He is survived by three children, Josh Allender and his fiancee Katie Mingus of Cherokee, Christine Nordstrom and her husband Kevin of Bettendorf, and Rebecca Allender and her fiance Royd Reid of Cherokee; seven grandchildren, Trae, Ameera, Quintin, Forrest, Frankie, Logan and Jaxson; and one brother, Marvin Allender and his wife Carol of Tustin, Calif.
