The Hastings Tribune noted her death on Sept 22,1899, on page 1. "Mrs. Herb Carson, who has been a bride but three weeks died at her home on East Fourth street Wednesday night."
Hastings Saturday Republican on Sept 30,1899 on page 6, reported, "Mrs. Sarah Carson died at 8 o'clock p.m. Wednesday at the family home in this city of appendicitis, aged 19 years; deceased had been ill but a few days. An operation was performed Wednesday afternoon, her death occuring some hours later. She was married three weeks ago and her death is indeed a sad one that has enlisted much sympathy for the bereaved husband. Just before the operation, realizing her critical condition she sang her favorite hymn, "Nearer My God to Thee." It was pathetic in the extreme."
