Michaelena was born in Buczek (outskirts of Warsaw) Poland where she tended the families cows. When she was 9 years old the cow she was leading was struck by lightning which knocked Lena out. Her family went and found her and brought her home and she made a full recovery. Lena came to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1911 to help her sister Elizabeth "Lizzy" Dykoski care for the children and escape the Bolshevik Revolution which was ensuing. She made entrance to the United States through Ellis Island where her name is listed on the Wall of Honor. Lena worked in a candy factory and later Nankin Restaurant as kitchen help where her soon to be husband Gam Louie worked.Gam and Lena were married in 1915. Lena was taught by her sister Lizzy to be a seamstress and opened her own shop called Louie's Remodeling. Gam and Lena had 6 children together. Alice, Maggie, Jenee, Bubbles, Lowell and Neree. The children were brought up studying dance and music. They were offered to do some performances for Kiddie Reviews, then later performed as The Louie's Chinese Revue. The family traveled from coast to coast. Lena later opened a shop on 45th Street in NYC called Kim Loo Originals. She made gowns for her childrens performances as well as gowns and costumes for Hildegarde, singers at clubs and soloists for Big Bands.
