Mrs. Amanda Orr Cooke, 75, of Evans Mills, widow of Thomas Cooke, died at 7:50 Thursday evening in the House of the Good Samaritan, where she had been a patient since March 18. She had been ill about three weeks.
The body will be taken from the Hart Funeral home late this afternoon to the home of her son, Vernal S Cooke, Evans Mills, where funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2. Rev John Roberts, Episcopal clergyman of Canton, formerly of Evans Mills, will officiate Burial will be made in the family plot at Evans Mills.
Six grandsons will be bearers. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal church of Evans Mills.
Surviving Mrs. Cooke are seven children, Thomas N. Cooke, city; John Cooke, George H. Cooke, Richard L. Cooke and Vernal S. Cooke, Evans Mills; Mrs. Everton (Charlotte) Ayerst, LaFargeville, and Mrs. George (Minnie M.) Henderson, Philadelphia; a sister, Mrs. Sarah Eves, Watertown; a brother, Lewis Orr, Kingston, Ort; 17 grandchildren, ten great-grand- children, and nephews and nieces. Another daughter, Mrs. Elmore (Elizabeth) Brown, Evans Mills, died in the same hospital at the age of 51 years on April 18, 1948.
Mrs. Cooke was born in Kingston, Ont., Aug. 29, 1875, a daughter of the late Nathaniel and Eliza Orr. She came to this country at the age of 12 and lived at Alexandria Bay and later in the town of Brownville.
She was married to Thomas Cooke in July, 1894, in the town of Pamelia. They resided in the town of Pamelia 13 years and in the town of Brownville 14 years, moving to the town of LaRay 29 years ago. Mr. Cooke died at the family home, three miles from Evans Mills, Jan. 7, 1943.
