There is a big question as to why Robert is buried in this cemetery while many of his family members are buried in Guilford County, NC. He must have been visiting his son Peter Field Hanner who had married the daughter of John Gibson, Sarah Ann "Sallie" Gibson, about 1835. He must have died while visiting the local Richmond County (now Scotland County) area. It would have been impossible to get his body back to Guilford County in those days. Robert Hanner is buried near the father of his daughter-in-law, John Gibson. His son Peter had at least 12 children in Richmond County, NC, before that area broke off and became Scotland County in 1899. Robert Hanner is the 3rd Great Grandfather to Horace Peele. His daughter Charlotte "Hannah" Hanner is his mother's grandmother.
