Edward Rush Duer Jr., died in Salt Lake City on November 5, 1994 after having a series of strokes over the past two years.

He was born in New York City on December 12, 1908. The son of Anna Caldwell Whitehead and Edward Rush Duer. He graduated from Princeton University in 1931. He was on the Princeton Debate Team. He was the acting American Consul in Casablanca, Morocco when he met his future wife, Nadejda de Likatscheff. They married on October 26, 1946. He then worked in Germany for the State Department helping implement the European Recovery Program following World War II.He served Salt Lake County Aging Service as a retired senior volunteer for many years, working for the Food Repository Program. He also did volunteer work at the Guadelupe Center and St. Marks Cathedral.

He is survived by his wife; daughter and son-in-law, Nadejjda, Claudia and Jim Boddy and two grandchildren, Celine and Nicholas Boddy.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 9th, 3 p.m., at the Cathedral Church of St. Marks, 231 East 100 South.

Enlisted, January 5, 1934, in Troop K, 101st Cavalry Regiment ( Squadron A ), New York City. He served in Troop K with his brother Pennington, who enlisted, January 29, 1935.

November 13, 1934, his Troop acted as escort to the officers of International Jumping Teams at the National Horse Show, Madison Square Garden.
March 7, 1935,MG Leon B. Kromer, Chief of Cavalry, USA, review the Squadron at the Manhattan Armory.
Mach 7 - 12, 1935, Troop K acted as escort at the National Horse Show, Madison Square Garden.
October 24, 1936, he Troop acted as escort at the funeral of Colonel William R Wright.

He was discharged from Troop K, 101st Cavalry, January 5, 1937.

His father Edward R Duer served also in Squadron A, enlisting post Spanish American War and in Depot Squadron A during World War 1. His brother Pennington served in the 101st Cavalry ( Squadron A ), 1935 - 1940. His uncles served in Squadron A, Oothout Z. Whitehead 1895 - 1899 and William Silas Whitehead served, 1895 to 1898 and mustered in with Troop A , NY Volunteer Cavalry, during the Spanish American War.

World War 2, entered service in the US Army, February 20, 1941, New York City.
