Amos Dodd, a Captain in the Essex Militia during the American Revolutionary War, was born to Daniel and Sarah (nee Alling) Dodd in "Watsesson", present day Bloomfield, NJ. In 1762, he married Hannah Condit of nearby Orange. He was then 25 years old, and his bride 2 years his junior. Dodd received his officer's commission in the Essex Militia at the age of 39, on May 27, 1777, and lived to see the triumph of the cause he fought for. He was buried in this churchyard after he died at age 74 in the autumn of 1811. His widow, Hannah, survived him by 28 years.
