Tom Taylor was the son of Martha Johnson whose first husband was Mr. McClean; her second husband was Mr. Taylor. Tom was a McClean but assumed his stepfather's name. Tom bought the Hidalgo store from John H. Dalton around 1905 and his son, Marsh, was his partner and later bought him out.
In 1887, Tom and Esther deeded land for Kenne's Chapel where Methodists and Baptists worshipped together. Later, Martha Coyle Harmon and Esther Coyle Taylor gave logs for a Baptist Church at Taylors Grove and Tom Taylor added the bell tower.
