Charles was the son of Charles Steel (1811-1884) & Mary Tyler (1828-1898). His parents did not come to America. Charles Jr.'s siblings were: John (1847), Jonathan (1850), Richard James (1851), Hannah (1852), Henry (1853), William (1856), Joseph (1858), Eliza (1861), May (1866), & Emma (1869). Charles immigrated to America with his good friends, Alfred & Caroline Parker & family in April 1867. The Queen Mary landed in Bloomfield, New Jersey. By 1872, they all were living in Little Rock, Arkansas. Charles was a wagon maker.
His friend Alfred Parker died 3 Sep 1873 (there is a question that he might have died in London,England). On 21 Oct 1878 Charles married Caroline Roff Parker, (1845-1928), Alfred's widow. Their children were: Charles "Charley" John (1876), Mary Emma (1879), William "Will" John (1882), Thomas Richard (1888), & Robert Raymond (1891). They lived in Perkins Twp., Saline, Arkansas, & then in Wrightsville, Pulaski, Arkansas, retiring to Little Rock, Pulaski, AR.
