Austin M. Maples, 78, of Highlandville, died at 7:30 p.m. Monday in St. John's Hospital following a lingering illness.

A veteran of World War I, Mr. Maples was a retired farmer of the Tory community south of Highlandville. He was a member of the pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Tory.

He is survived by his wife, Weltha; two sons, Glen and James of Highlandville; one daughter, Mrs. Lois Foell, Springfield; one sister. Miss. Lona Sims, Nixa; 13 grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at Tory, south of Highlandville. The Rev. Earl Bishop and the Rev. Howard Blevins will officiate. Burial will be in Highlandville Cemetery under direction of Adams of Ozark.
