Carthage News July 22, 1897; "Died--At home of her parents, Capt. and Mrs. J. P. Ryan, Miss Lillian Ryan, of typhoid fever, July 19th 12 P. M. Miss Ryan was one of Howard's most popular and highly esteemed young ladies and her many friends extend their sympathy to her bereaved parents. Funeral was held from the Catholic Church Wednesday morning. Internment in Howard cemetery."

Her death resulted from an attack of typhoid fever and her demise occurred on Monday evening at 11:30 July 19. No marker on grave. From St. Joseph Cemetery records and sequence of Ryan family deaths. Lilly is buried next to her mother on the south side of the Ryan plot.
