Minnie McGill, daughter of Elias Miller, provided information on the family in letters dated 1964-1966. The Register of Births for Rockcastle Co., Ky. lists Emily Miller, born 23 Oct 1858, parents Abraham Miller and Mary A. Bishop. Mary Ann (Bishop) Miller is variously listed in documents as Annie, Anna, Nancy, and Mary A. At that time "Nancy" was a common nickname for Ann.

Abraham Miller (Jr.), with his wife and daughter, is listed on the 1850 census of Scott County, Va.. Next door is his father, Abraham Miller, Sr. By 1860 both families had moved to Rockcastle County, Ky., where Abraham Jr. owned land valued at $200. He had first appeared on the tax list of 1857 in Rockcastle County.

Abraham Miller served as a private in Company B, 4th Regiment of Kentucky Volunteer Infantry. According to his widow's pension claim, he died from the effects of a wound in the abdomen received in the Battle at Mill Springs, Ky. The birthdates of the living children were listed in the claim.
