Robert Maylon Hawkins was first son of William Franklin Hawkins 1848–1945 and Louisa J Walker 1853–1885 to live to maturity. The siblings that lived were an older sister, Lottie Bell Hawkins 1875–1964, Lottie married Thorton Beckner April 4 1894 and an younger brother, John Farmer Hawkins 1880–1944, John married Carrie Bell Watts June 1, 1910.

Robert's mother and twin boys died as she gave birth to them when Bob was a little boy of eight. Soon after her death his father married Winnie Eliza Gulley, and in the next sixteen years added two half brothers and 2 half sisters. They were : Edward Alvin "Pete" Hawkins1886–1971, Pete married Minnie Belle Everhart Oct 18 1912 in Tulare Co., California; Myrtle V. Hawkins 1889–1961 Myrtle married Arthur M. Myklebost in Tulare Co, California; Harley Festis Hawkins 1893–1980, Harley married Ollie Chestnutt in Hawkins Co., Tennessee; and Necia Mae Hawkins 1901–1938, Necia married Joseph Louis DeCamp in Tulare Co. California.

On June 12, 1901 Robert married Candace Jones in Hawkins Co. R.C. Horner, Minister of the Gospel officiated. To the union of Bob and Dace were born Georgie Hawkins 1901–1972, Georgie married Bert Arnott on June 17, 1955; Mary Francis Hawkins 1907–1972, Francis married Rassie Buchanan on Feb.13, 1926; Robert Franklin Hawkins 1912–1949, Robert died, a widower; on Oct.29, 1949; Paul Jones Hawkins 1914–1974, Paul married Evelyn Coffey on Nov.8, 1931.

After Robert's father, W.F. Hawkins, moved to Tulare, California, he moved to his father's house on Walker School/Church Rd and farmed the land. When his father died in 1945 the house and farm was sold, and he retired. Robert lived 13 more years before he died at his son, Paul's home in Oak Ridge, Tennessee on Dec. 14, 1958. His was body was returned to Hawkins Co., and laid to rest beside his beloved wife Candace Jones Hawkins in the Otes United Methodist Church Cemetery. (bio by Audrey DeCamp Hoffman)
