Dr. Marion Smith McGeath, 82, of Normal, formerly of Lincoln, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, of Heritage Manor in Normal. She was born Dec. 21, 1920, in Lincoln, the daughter of Arthur C. and Lucille Scott Smith. She married Marion Earl McGeath in 1941; he died in 1999. She was preceded in death by a son, Richard. Dr. McGeath held a bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree in clinical and counseling psychology from Illinois State University. She received her Ph.D in educational and counseling psychology from the University of Illinois. She served as dean of students and as director of counseling service at Redlands University in California and professor of psychology at Lincoln Land Community College, Illinois College and the University of Illinois. She worked at the Chicago Read Mental Health Care Center from 1975-81. She entered into private practice in 1981 in Springfield, retiring in 1999. She sang and played the piano for the First Methodist Church choir in Lincoln as well as various community programs. She was honored by Kappa Delta Pi for her contributions to education and learning and was included in Who's Who in American Women. In 1996 she obtained diploma designation of board certified forensic examiner clinical psychologist. She held offices in the Carillon Society and Women's Symphony Guild in Springfield and the American MENSA Association. Survivors: two daughters, Carol McGeath (husband, Thomas) Burma of Yorba Linda, Calif., and Sharon McGeath (husband, Larry) Wyatt of Bloomington; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
