Funeral Held Friday
Dr. Geo. W. Smith, Who Died in Chicago, Buried in the Abingdon Cemetery.

The funeral of the late Dr. Geo. W. Smith, of Chicago, was held on Friday mornng at 10:30 o'clock in the Methodist Church in Abingdon. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.S. Welsh, pastor and the singing Misses Edith Shoemaker and Cheryl Miller and Merrs C.E. Smith and Harold Cady. The songs were Lead Kindly Light Crossing the Bar and the Home Over There.

The pall bearers were members of the Masonic Lodge of this city, Interment was in the Abingdon Cemetery.

George W. Smith was the son of James and Elizabeth Smith and was born at Oak Grove near Abingdon on November 27, 1861. He died at his home in Chicago on October 2, 1911, age 47 years, 10 months and 5 days.

In 1899 he entered Rush Medical College and graduated in the class of 1903. Since that time he has built up a very respectable practice in Chicago.

He joined the Masonic Lodge in Chicago. In which he served thirty three degrees. He was one of the board of health appointed by President McKinley to visit Porto Rico, Cuba and Hayti.

Dr. Smith is survived by six brother and three sisters, namely J.L. Smith of Abingdon, Henry F. of Hermon, J.B. of Knoxville, Rober M. of Hebron, Neb, Chas E. of Oak Grove, C. Harvey of Tonica, Mary A. of Rock Island, Mrs. Kirby Snyder of Minneapolis and Laura R. Capp(Clapp) of Galesburg.

He also leaves a wife and daughter, Mrs. Mariel Whittaker, Galesburg, two sons, Geo. M. and C.B. of Galesburg.

The flowers were very beautiful. The service at the cemetery were in charge of the Mason's.

(It looks like he was married twice, first wife was Belle Long and the mother of their three children, Elsie was he second wife.)
