Charles Reid "Charlie" Coose, Jr., of Beverly, formerly longtime of Essex, died Wednesday June 8, 2011 after a lengthy illness.
Born in Ipswich, October 8, 1929 he was the son of the late Charles Reid Coose, Sr. and Amy (Hammond) Coose. He was raised, and until recently, lived in Essex. He attended Gloucester High School graduating in 1947. Following graduation he worked as a mechanic at Gaybrook Garage. He joined the Naval Reserves in 1950 and went into active duty in the United States Navy in 1952. He attended boot camp at the Great Lakes followed by a fifteen month tour aboard the USS Deuel which was assigned to the Sixth Fleet. The ship carried marines and equipment to Japan and then returned to the States bringing combatants from service in Korea. After proudly serving his country, he was honorably discharged and returned to work at the Gaybrook Garage followed by employment at the sewage treatment plant in Gloucester.
Charlie was much loved by his extended family, friends and neighbors. He was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church. His historical knowledge of the Town of Essex made him a popular resource for fellow Essexites and a well-liked guide at the Essex Shipbuilding Museum.
Charlie is survived by his sisters Beverly Coose of Beverly, Betsy Klopotoski-Webb of Essex, nephew Lt. Col. Dean T. Klopotoski (retired) and his wife AmmySoo (Verge) of Ashland and their children Sean Leo, Charles Andrew, Rosanna Betsy and Rebecca Carol, nephews, James Webb and his wife, Lucia (Febonia), David Webb and his wife, Laura (Bruno), and Mark Webb and his wife, Deborah (Anderson), nieces, Deborah Webb Burke and her husband, Stephen, and Marilyn Webb, close cousins, Carl and Christopher Coose, Clayton Hammond, Janet Shawcross, her daughter Michele Annis, her husband , Peter and their children, Peter, Cindy, Janet and her husband Tim Bolton, Maryann Colbert and her husband Stephen and their children Danny, Kate and Caroline and the extended Colbert Family and Michael and Matthew Wescott. He is also survived by special friend, Peggy Wiselogle and special neighbor, Mary Elinor Dagle.
His funeral service with Naval Honors will be held noon, Saturday, June 11, in the Spring Street Cemetery, Essex. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be sent to the First United Methodist Church, 391 Bay Road, Hamilton, MA 01982 or Hospice of the North Shore (Attn: Kaplan House) 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
