Charles R, Coose, 93 History buff Charles R. Coose, husband of Amy (Hammond) Coose of Essex died Feb. 8 in Beverly Hospital following his lengthy illness. He was 93. He was born Dec. 19, 1902 in Essex, son of the late Charles and Mary (Cussack) Coose. He attended Essex Public Schools. As a young man he worked several years at the former Pittman and Brown Paint Store in Salem. Mr. Coose and the late Roland Joseph formerly of Essex, later owned and for the next 40 years, operated the Gaybrook Garage in Essex. He retired in 1967. Since his retirement he became affectionately known as the ‘manicurist of Forrest Avenue' for the maintenance of the street and its adjacent grounds. A local history buff, he was looked to by many as a resource of Essex history. Mr. Coose was a member of the Essex Historical Society and the former Essex Knights of Pythias. In addition to his wife of 87 years, he is survived by a son, Charles R. Coose Jr., of Essex, two daughters, Beverly Coose of Essex and Betsy Ann Klopotoski and her husband Leo J. Webb of Gloucester; a grandson, 1st Lt Dean T. Clopotoski of North Carolina and many nephews and nieces. He was the brother of the late Aaron Coose, formerly of Florida, the late George Coose formerly of Minnesota, the late Agnes Coose, formerly of Beverly, and the late Dorothy Flynn, formerly of Amesbury. His funeral service was held Monday in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St., followed by burial in the Spring Street Cemetery in Essex. Memorial contributions may be made to the Essex Shipbuilding Museum, Main St., Essex MA 01929.
