Dena Marie Franke became the wife of Winfield Scott Royce when they married at 7:30p.m. on July 7th, 1923 at 915 Maple St., Albany, Linn County, Oregon. She was born in California, according to their marriage license. They attended a Burkhart family reunion in 1926 at William Chester & Mayme (Allen) Burkhart's home in Albany, OR. They had at least one child, a daughter they named Mary Lucille, who was born Feb 22, 1923 (although 1930 US Census states Mary was b.1924). They lived in Albany until at least 1940. Winnie, her husband's nickname, was the manager of Western Union and Dena was a telephone operator until at least 1940. I believe they moved back to California after Nellie, Winnie's mother, died in 1948, or possibly prior to that as Nellie was cared for the last years of her life by her daughter, Pearl Laura, and her husband, Harry Hoyt Taylor, in Oakland, CA. until Nellie passed from this life. They never wanted her in a nursing facility, prefering she die at home with family members around her. When Winnie and Dena and their daughter moved to Los Angeles, CA, their last known address was 1919 W. 7th St., Los Angeles, CA. Deanna became a widow in 1957 when Winnie died at work as an elevator operator at the Orpheum Theatre at 846 S. Broadway, Los Angeles, CA. He apparently had a heart attack, collapsing while on the job and nothing could be done to revive him. He was cremated at what was then Restland Memorial Park in North Hollywood, and was interred at the Mausoleum of Rememberance at what is now Pierce Brothers Valhalla Memorial Park in North Hollywood, Los Angeles County, California. According to the California Death Index, Dena died on Feb 24, 1973. The disposition of her remains are unknown.
