Ballston Spa, Feb 6 —The death of Mrs. Frances Lee McLean, which occurred this afternoon [6 Feb] at her home on High Street, removes one of the oldest and best known residents of this village. She was the daughter of Joel and Patience Westcott Lee, who came to the Town of Milton from Danbury, Conn., in 1793. In the year 1800 he began business in this village as a merchant and for half a century he was one of the leading citizens. He held the office of postmaster for 36 years.
Frances Lee married Callender Beecher, a rising young lawyer who went to California when gold was discovered in 1849. He died soon after reaching there. Later she married the late John McLean, a paper manufacturer.
Mrs. McLean is survived by 2 granddaughters, Mrs. James [Nellie] M. Andrews of Schenectady and Miss Frances McLean Beecher; her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Clara V. Beecher; several nieces and nephews, Mrs. Margaret Powell, Miss Mary Lee, Mrs. Edward F. Grose, of this village; Mrs. John Arbuckle, of Watkins, N. Y.; Walter S. Lee of Boulder, Yolo.; Mrs. Isabel Lee Parmenter of Saratoga Springs, and Mrs. Elizabeth Jordan of Boston. The funeral will take place Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
