Johan Thamm was born in Germany in 1845, and became a stonemason. He migrated to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada before 1872; he may have married his wife Albertina Brunke in Germany or in Canada; he may have worked on the Canadian Parliament Building and other government buildings in Ottawa; his first four children were born in Ottawa. By 1882 he was living in Colorado Springs, Colorado, probably
attracted there by work for masons in the mines in that area, and where his fifth child was born. By 1885 he was living in Hailey, Idaho, probably to work in the minesthere, and where his last three children were born. His handsome gravestone may have been carved by him. Bio by Ronald Decker.
