Born in Germany to a Catholic family. No information on parents. She came to Ottawa, Ontario Canada before 1872, and met and married her husband Johan Thamm probably in Germany but perhaps in Canada. Her and Johan's first four children were born in Ottawa. By 1882, she and family had moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where her fifth child was born. By 1885, she and her family had moved to Hailey, Idaho, where her last three children were born and where she lived until her death.
Her obituary in the Wood River Times on Oct 14, 1890 stated:
"Mrs. Albertina Tham died in this city at half past 3 o'clock this morning of peritonitis.
The poor sufferer had been invalid for five years, during which time she was unable to leave her home, and her sufferings were continuous and painful to a high degree. She nevertheless, during all that time attended to her household and children as if in health. Her sufferings are ended, and she is enjoying the rest which she has earned so well.
She leaves to mourn her loss a devoted husband and eight children, the oldest of whom is 18 years, and the youngest is 1 year and 5 month of age. While, therefore, the community loses in her one of its deservedly honored members, its loss is as nothing compared to that of the little children she left behind."
