Green Co. KY Circuit Case #174 - 23 June 1865
Adeline Cantrell vs E. L. Cantrell
Vol 6 of GC Abstracts by Barbara Wright.
Very interesting court case in Vol 6 of Green Co KY Abstracts of Circuit Court Records, pg 56-61, compiled by Barbara Wright. The case was alleging mistreatment by her husband and asking for a divorce. Testimony by John Elmore, Mary Rizen, Thomas Raffety, and Hannah Rizen (Adeline's mother).
Agreement:
Owing to unhappy differences between Adeline Cantrell and her husband, E. L. Cantrell, they have separated and design to remain so. It is agreed that a portion of the estate of Cantrell be set apart for the support of herself and two children which will remain with her.
The tract of land on which E.L. Cantrell lived at the time of the separation is to be held and enjoyed by Adeline for five years from 1 March 1866, one cow and calf, five head of sheep, $50 worth of pork to be furnished her by E.L. Cantrell, one sow, one half of all the household and kitchen furniture, half of the corn raised, one plow and hoe. Adeline is to take care of the farm and use and occupy it herself. If she should cease to live there, it goes back to E.L. Cantrell. The above property is all of her claim for alimony and support from his estate. Her attorneys are directed to dismiss the suit this 30 October 1865.
