Television Journalist. He served in the United States Army during World War II as a infantryman in Europe. In 1948 he became a reporter for "The Denver Post" before moving to "The New York Herald Tribune" in 1950. He joined CBS News in 1952 as a political reporter, and became that network's first permanent Africa correspondent in 1960. Later he became its Paris, France bureau chief. He was a supervising field producer with ABC News from 1967 to 1969, during which time he won a Peabody award for the documentary, "Africa." In 1967 he became a correspondent for NBC News, reporting from Vietnam, Africa and Israel. He was a professor of Journalism at Boston University from 1973 to 1984, and author of the novel "The Delorosa Deal," the travel journal "South of the Moon," and the companion book to the ABC documentary, "Africa." He authored numerous articles published in "The Boston Herald" and "The Saturday Evening Post". He was the grandson of symphony conductor and composer Walter Damrosch, and great-grandson of James Gillespie Blaine, United States Senator and 1876 Presidential Candidate.
